Smurfy’s first week with us in pictures

A new ship's cat!

3 years after our Leeloo died we have finally filled that cat-shaped hole in our lives again! Meet Smurfy, our perfect little admiral from Vanuatu :-)

Oh. My. God. Smurfy is irresistibly adorable! I love the stripes on his front legs. I also like your phrasing of “cat-shaped hole,” Christian—very well said. Suffice it to say, a long-term cat person is typing these lines, and the one who also happens to have two such holes in his heart. I am so happy that the two of you have filled yours.
On a bit lighthearted note—Smurfy is sooo going to domesticate you, and the two of you are going to be such good human slaves to her. (Or is it him?) To that end, I see that Christian is already well-trained to fulfill the requirements of a cat bed. ;) Also, I wouldn’t be surprised to stumble on Birgit’s article in, say, Cruising World, something along the lines of “How to hitch a South Pacific ride from a cat’s perspective: How I boarded Sparkman & Stephens 41 and made it my home (Captain Jack Sparrow, you should take notes).” Then there’s the whole enigma of Smurfy’s relationship with your new garden. Is (s)he going to become the pampering pawliceman? Or a new garden will be obliterated by a catastrophy? (Both the ‘pawliceman’ and ‘catastrophy’ are intentional.) ;)   Maybe we’ll learn more about that development in yet another article, “How I trained my South Pacific human slaves to make me a lemon basil shade on a sailboat.” ;) )
Kidding aside—taking Smurfy under your wings is just another of many good deeds the two of you have done throughout your voyage. You’re truly remarkable. May God shower you with His choicest blessings.
    Best regards,
    –Dejan

    Hi Dejan,
yes, our Smurfy’s just what we needed and he’s taking over the boat already. Fortunately he’s a really smart kitten and he’s learning quickly! The newly planted garden now only takes up half the spray hood, the other half is reserved as a kitten playground. It took 3 days and many shouted “NO!s” to convince Smurfy to keep his paws out of the soil ;-)
    I’ll post pics soon…
    All the best,
    Birgit
