During the southern winter 2024, we did a six week long trip to Europe: a few days stop-over in Singapore, then on to England, Croatia, visiting family and friends in Austria, a train ride to Zurich and back again to Vanuatu via Istanbul and Singapore.

/36: We spent 4 days in Singapore and found that double-decker busses are a perfect way to see as much as possible of the city! Amazing how such a densely populated area can be so green at the same time.
/36: Mindboggling skyscrapers
/36: We usually don't like zoos, but the one in Singapore has mainly large areas for the animals, like for the gorillas.
/36: In this enclosed "dome" lemurs and other small creatures roam free and can decide whether they would like to engage with visitors.
/36: What we like best about Singapore is the variety of cultures and all their cuisines! Dim Sum for breakfast...
/36: Restaurants and food stands (some of them open 24 hours like this great place) with food from India, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Japan, etc--you name it, they have it.
/36: We even tried Singapore's signature dish: frog...
/36: The next stop-over took me to London.
/36
/36: And on to Cambridge down memory lane, where we used to live.
/36
/36: Then a few days in Croatia, that was unfortunately hit by an algae pest--thanks to climate warming...
/36
/36: Christian and I met up again in Graz, where we lived for 15 years prior to setting out cruising.
/36
/36: Of course we did the traditional walk up the many stairs to the "Schlossberg".
/36
/36: Mediterranean atmosphere in the narrow streets of Graz with many cafes and restaurants.
/36: A 7 hour train ride took us to Zürich!

/36: On the way back we did a stop-over in the mountains near Innsbruch.

/36: Austrian cuisine at its best: Zwetschgenknödel! Plum-filled dumplings :-)
/36: On the way back from Austria we did a stop-over in Turkey.
/36: The hustle and bustle in the streets of Istanbul is overwhelming.
/36: Traffic cloggs the narrow streets and mopeds are the only ones to get through
/36: Greek, Roman and Ottoman architecture in a mix everywhere.
/36: The blue mosque...
/36: where smurfettes have to cover up smurf-style ;-)
/36: Hagia Sophia: former orthodox cathedral, now mosque.

/36: Trash and tiny workshops in the backstreets behind the glamour.
/36: Istanbul, city of cats! They are just everywhere and fortunately residents provide the strays with water bowls and food.
