/28: Pretty anchorage off Nusagila island in the shallow lagoon between Eloaua und Emananus Island.
/28: We had a constant stream of curious visitors and had to give the boat tour several times a day.
/28: There's no supply ship, so people are eager to trade!
/28: We got more fruit and veg than we could handle and started canning ;-)
/28: A globe comes handy when we explain where we're from.
/28: While Vincent's brothers were cleaning the hull with Christian, the youngest brother helped me making a chocolate cake!
/28: Some visitors came paddling, but most have sails for their canoes!
/28: Note the creative sail made from umbrella material and the paddle to steer and stabilise the boat--no keel!
/28: All islanders are fervent 7th day adventists and John came to preach to us on Saturday morning...
/28: And the girls sang a church hymn for us ;-)
/28: We visited Mananus Island
/28: Home-made canoes, but when we asked whether people were planting trees for new ones, they just shook their heads.
/28: Little Nusagila is home to 1000s of frigate birds.
/28: Smurfy was fascinated, but also a bit scared by all those birds leaving in the morning
/28: only to return in the evening.
/28: We took the dinghy to Eloaua, the main island and main village.
/28: To reach the main village we had to cross the island.
/28: Eloaua has a runway, but too many clans demanded payment for its use and it hasn't seen a plane since the 80s, now people plant sweet potatoes on the runway.
/28: On the way back we had a whole committee to keep us company on the runway.
/28: Despite hot water and some bleaching, the underwater world is stunning outside the lagoon.
/28: Giant clams everywhere!
/28: 7th day adventist aren't allowed to eat turtles, so they are numerous and quite tame!
