During the coolest months of the year (July and August) we like to hang out around the big, high islands of the Societies that give shelter from the mara'armu (strong, cold SE wind). We got lots of projects done and enjoyed some snorkeling and hiking breaks.

/40: Flying the drone is always a bit of an adventure from the boat...
/40: ...especially the landing part.

/40: Pretty waterfalls...
/40: ...but sometimes quite muddy.
/40: Pitufa draws 7 ft and we still manage to anchor up on the reef shelf, where we can drop the hook in sand and never touch any coral.
/40: Okay, so this anchorage was borderline, but still fine ;-)
/40: We found some nice underwater sights like this anemone

/40: But generally the reefs are depressingly dead.
/40
/40: Too much pollution and overfishing. Such surgeons try to clean the reef to keep algae from growing, but there are no longer enough of them...
/40: High swell tears off the algae, then it covers large areas of the surface.
